IS THERE ANY COST FOR THIS?

Yes and no. The cost for a family to camp in San Bernardino Forest is $40 for the first night ($20 each consecutive night) or a Mountain View cabin for $100 for the first night ($50 each consecutive night). This covers our cost for cleaning the bathrooms or cabin, stocking firewood, and staffing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If I want to camp in Sherwood, do I need to bring a tent or will mattresses be available in the huts? You are welcome to bring tents or stay in the huts. Mattresses will be available in a central location where you can retrieve and carry them to your hut and sanitize before and after using.

May I bring my RV or tent trailer? Yes. However, we do NOT have any hook-ups for electricity, water, or sewer. We will have designated parking spaces in Mountain View and Sherwood parking lots. RVs may not be driven into the hamlets.

May I request a particular hamlet or cabin in Sherwood? Yes, availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis. We also caution that if you request Reddingham, please be aware that others may want to climb on the Reddingham Stump or cut through this area to access the trailhead to George's Falls. We will also urge others to be considerate to those camping in that hamlet.

Will bathrooms be available in Sherwood Forest? Yes, we will have select bathrooms open in Sherwood, and we hope to be able to provide separate bathrooms for each family. Bathrooms will be cleaned daily.

What can I expect to see when I arrive at Calvin Crest? Since receiving the PPP loan, the staff has been hard at work on the grounds in the upper part of camp. However, due to cancelling summer camp programs, the typical spring clean-up in Sherwood has not been completed. In addition, our forest stewardship program has taken advantage of this time without campers to complete some much needed removal of dead and dying trees in Sherwood, which has caused quite a bit of debris. While we hope to slowly work on cleaning this up, you may find that Sherwood is in rougher shape than other summers due to this critical work. Ultimately, Sherwood will be safer as a result.

Is there an opportunity to do volunteer projects while we are at Calvin Crest! Yes. Yes. And yes. We would love for you to help with Sherwood Forest clean-up, painting, or other projects we can customize just for you. Just let us know upon registration, and we can arrange to work with you.

Will any food service be available at Calvin Crest? Unfortunately, we are not able to provide food service this summer. However, you are welcome to bring your food in coolers, and we would be happy to provide igloos full of ice as often as needed for $5 per igloo. In Mountain View, we will have a gas grill available. Grills are available in Sherwood that fit over each burn pit, and we will provide a grill pack at check-in, which will include a brush, scraper, tongs, and large spatula.  Chef Christina (or Lochness Melahnster) may also be bribed to cook for your party in Sherwood as that is something she loves to do. Our water is great potable water, so you can fill up water bottles at camp.

Will trash collection be available? Yes, you can dump trash in our designated dumpsters at camp. We will require those staying in Sherwood that you keep all garbage in your car at night (if not taken to a dumpster) to avoid any unwanted visitors. Open sweets in Mountain View cabins may also invite critters.

Will any indoor common spaces be available to us? Yes, Mountain View Lounge will be open and available for families to play games, do puzzles, or hang out if desired, as well as the kitchenette with a fridge and microwave. If multiple families want to use this space, we ask that you practice social distancing guidelines, and we will provide sanitization supplies to wipe down the space  before and after usage. Also, laundry facilities will be available for emergencies only.
